Blur text on hover css

To be clear, I know there are other ways to get the effect. Using margin-left rather than transform, etc. Basically, certain JavaScripts seem to cause crazy font smoothing stuff to happen. This is happening on my site now, too. Has anyone experienced a similar problem? This has to do with webkit and css.

Webkit for whatever reason likes to make the fonts swap from subpixel to standard antialiasing when doing css transforms. I would be less concerned if it were only the moving element that is swapped to standard antialiasing.

I actually just had somewhat of a breakthrough. Am I seeing something different than the rest of you? I have also determined that this issue only happens in OS X. Not sure about Linux, but I would guess not. I had a similar issue with a page of mine. Very infuriating. Better than having the text re-render on animation end, but not great.

This will fix this issue in Firefox, Chrome and Safari.

Just make the color transparent and set a text-shadow. Of course, the solution is to feature detect and only apply this effect if you are in a browser that supports it:. The color of the shadow is the only thing visible, so make sure it has enough contrast enough to be seen. Now instead of of having to apply the shadow on the entire word, we can do it letter-by-letter.

Now we can call that animation on every single letter.

The further the letter along in the word 2the longer the delay before it starts. Or we wanted to programmatically decide what color to use for the shadow. Or we wanted to randomly choose the blur level. What if we just want to set the offset, blur, or color?

It extends jQuery to be able to handle individual parts of complex CSS properties like text-shadow, box-shadow, border-image, transform, etc. Funny how much easier animating text-shadow is in CSS. But doing it this way is cool too as it has all those programatic advantages.

Update July keyframe animations are in all major browsers now and need the prefixes: -webkit- -moz, -ms- and -o. I generally find that way more useful than :nth-child. I used it to manipulate the logo. Anyways, thanks for the tip!HTML tables are the ideal choice for displaying data in tabular form. Tables can be styled and made interactive with a combination of jQuery and CSS. You can do different style experiments with tables for a better user experience. To get started, create a standard HTML table on the page. For this demo, our table has 3 columns: Name, Age, Country and some random data.

The following CSS classes are used to style the table and its rows. The blur CSS class creates a fade effect on table rows. Here, the text-shadow property of CSS3 is used to create a faded shadow. This property takes 4 values where the first two values specify the length of the shadow offset. The first value specifies the horizontal distance and the second specifies the vertical distance of the shadow.

The third value specifies the blur radius and the last value specifies the color of the shadow. To fade other rows, the jQuery solution is to assign the blur CSS class to all the rows except the selected row on hover and remove the blur CSS class from all the rows on mouse leave. Here is the complete jQuery code:. The code is pretty straightforward and self-explanatory. On hover, it first assigns the blur CSS class to all the rows and then remove the blur class from the current row in focus.

On mouse leave event, remove the blur class from all the rows. You can check out the code in action here! To make it look more attractive, you can highlight the selected rows via changing the background color or increasing the font size. To sum it up, we just saw how to create a fading effect on all table rows excluding the selected row.

While filters such as contrast, saturate, and blur have existed in image editors for some time, delivering them on the web has historically required serving images with those filters already applied. As browsers begin to incorporate filters as part of the web platform, we can begin breaking down complex visual effects into their component parts, and implementing them on the web. This article will examine one such effect, frosted glass, and how CSS filters provide a cleaner, more flexible solution than static images.

The frosted glass effect has been kicking around the internet for a while; we even saw it here on CSS-Tricks back in The idea behind the effect is relatively simple: just blur and lighten the area behind overlaid content. The CSS-Tricks article uses two images: a standard version and a frosted version blurred with a white tint.

In our example, a card slides up to reveal content, while frosting over the background. We first size everything to the viewport. Then, we overlay a blurred version of the background on top of the original background.

Finally, we add a white tint. The overflow is hidden to prevent scrolling and to clip the effect to the. The above CSS will create our blurred and lightened overlay.

We also need to shift the overlay down to the bottom of the page, leaving just enough space to view the header text. Since the blurred image is a child of the overlay, we also need to shift it back up by the opposite amount in order to keep it aligned with the body background.

Because the demo uses transitions, I chose to use CSS transforms rather than the background-attachment property, as CSS transforms can be hardware accelerated. The above technique is straightforward, and has solid browser support.

Although I spruced up the demo a bit with transitionsthe other required features β€” generated contentopacitytransforms and background-size β€” all have solid browser support ranging back to IE 9 with the exception of Opera Mini. The duplicate image technique requires maintaining a blurred image along with the original, which can become a pain if you need to reuse the effect for multiple images.

How TO - Blurred Background Image

For example, responsive designs may require swapping in different images at different screen sizes. Or, template layouts may drop in images dynamically eg, a different header image for every blog post. For these cases, it would be nice to generate the effect using only the source image. This is where CSS Filters come in handy. They allow us to apply the blur in the browser, using the CSS filter property. We can adjust the CSS for the frosted glass overlay to be the original image with a blur filter applied.

Easy peasy, right? Unfortunately, CSS Filters are somewhat new.By using our site, you acknowledge that you have read and understand our Cookie PolicyPrivacy Policyand our Terms of Service. The dark mode beta is finally here.

I got a bit entangled with classes and id's here This issue is that you are attempting to traverse up the document tree with CSS. This can be easily achieved using native JS, but I've chosen to use jQuery because of the relative ease of use. The trick is quite simple: to absolutely position a blurred version of the background image, nested in a pseudo-element, say ::beforewith its opacity set to zero.

This is the easiest way to create the effect you are looking for. As I'm sure you know, the issue is one of scope. You cannot to my knowledge set the background of a parent element from a child element without a JS workaround. Learn more. How to make background image blur on link hover? Ask Question.
